Choose a location

It’s undeniable that UGA loves tailgaters. There are several options for tailgating at the University of Georgia campus. Here is a list of the most common locations:

North Campus and Herty Field

If you are looking for a family-friendly location, Herty Field is it. Aside from the tailgating rules, this area is subject to tighter rules and regulations, but it offers a great experience for most fans.

Tailgating is allowed in designated parking lots and areas directly surrounding the stadium. The North Campus area, specifically Lot 77 and the areas around Stegeman Coliseum, is also where tailgating occurs.

North Campus additional Rules:

  • Tailgating on North Campus is allowed beginning 5 hours before kickoff
  • Tables cannot exceed 6 feet
  • Tents are allowed
  • The following items are not allowed on North Campus on gamedays:
  • Kegs
  • Generators
  • Televisions
  • Amplified music
  • Grills or cookers of any type
  • Household furniture (folding chairs permitted)
  • No golf carts or ATVs
  • No parking on sidewalks
  • Tailgates (tents, tables, etc.) may not be set up in parking spaces

South Campus

Many established tailgaters have claimed the top spots in The South Campus for years. This area is home to a bunch of the most diehard fans. The parking lot is further south of the campus, so there are more spots for the remaining tailgaters. The only downside is that it’s a long walk to the stadium. As a result, there aren’t as many tailgaters at this location.

Myers Quad

Georgia University’s most ritualistic tailgating experience takes place on the Myers Quad Lawn, but it’s welcoming to that student and alums community. You’re asked to make a cover charge for admission, but you also get a barbecue meal included with your meal. It’s a great way to kick off the game day with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Intramural Fields

Intermural Fields is a favorite place for tailgaters to park large RVs. It also offers spaces for those waiting in minivans and sedans. When it comes to tailgating, there is a lot of room for activities. This area also hosts a Redcoat Marching Band pregame show from the parking lot. The best part is it’s an easy walk to the stadium from these lots.

Premium Tailgating

Located in Reed Quad outside Gate 3, Bulldogs Tailgate Club offers customizable tailgate packages and catering options for versatile game-day needs. Plus, a prime tailgate space is only steps away from Sanford Stadium. Sizes and options of tents may vary by game.

Tailgating Regulations

  • Fans may park vehicles in open university spaces before 7:00 a.m. as long as tailgating items remain inside the car and fans remain quiet. Fans may park in spaces managed by the Athletics Association starting at 7:00 a.m.
  • Charcoal grills are permitted. Open wood burning or other fires fueled by physical material (paper, trash, fire logs, etc.) are not allowed on the ground, fire rings, or in chimineas.
  • Propane tanks or cylinders containing compressed gas (turkey fryers, low country boils, grills, or portable heaters) are prohibited. This regulation does not apply to grills using disposable propane canisters of 17 ounces or less.
  • No unauthorized use of UGA resources (power and cable hookups).
  • Fans who want to watch television or use other entertainment devices that require electricity can do so as long as they provide their power and video source.
  • No household furniture (folding chairs are permitted).

Gameday Resources

As expected, there are hundreds of port johns throughout campus. Also, bathrooms are available at Tate Student Center, Miller Learning Center, Joe Frank Harris Commons, and Bolton Dining Commons.

Also, a few trash receptacles are placed in the main areas around the stadium. You can either take your trash or leave it in your area, and the clean-up crew will take care of it.

Enjoy your tailgate party!
